Baby sleep, without the stopwatch

Baby wake windows without the false precision

Reviewed

A wake window is the time between waking and falling asleep again. It can be a useful observation, but it is not an appointment. Broad sleep needs vary by age and individual biology, so the most useful window is a range grounded in your baby’s recent sleep and checked against their cues.

Why the tables disagree

Most wake-window charts are practical conventions, not a single pediatric standard. Even consensus guidance is expressed as total sleep across 24 hours: for infants 4–12 months, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends 12–16 hours including naps and notes that individual need varies.

A calmer way to use the pattern

Record when sleep ends and the next sleep begins. After several days, look at the middle of those observed gaps rather than the shortest, longest or one unusual day. Treat the result as the moment to start watching for cues—not a deadline to make sleep happen.

How Gaia handles it

Gaia waits for at least five reasonably consistent wake windows. It then shows the middle half as a range, projects later windows more softly and updates after every sleep. If the record is too thin or scattered, Gaia stays quiet.

Sources and safety

This guide is general information, not medical advice. Always use current safe-sleep guidance and contact a qualified clinician when you are worried about your baby.

$GAIA — the ticker

The free tracker is
paid for by the token.

Gaia stays free: every tracker, every chart, every caregiver, on every device, with no subscription and no paid tier. $GAIA is how the rest of it gets paid for. It launches on Solana — coming soon.

It keeps the free tier free

Nap predictions, the importer and the sync that holds one family log together all run on servers we pay for every month. The token treasury covers that bill, so what you use today never turns into a subscription.

You buy the extras with it

When Gaia sells something on top — a longer history, more caregiver seats, the Android build — it is a one-off purchase paid in $GAIA. Buy with our token: no card on file, nothing recurring, and never a fee for what you already have.

Holders decide what ships next

Holder wallets get the Android and MCP builds first, and vote on what the next release adds. The exact holder mechanics are provisional until launch day.
